Winter in the camper proved more miserable than we anticipated thanks to a broken heater, so we made plans in early December to rent a place for a month and ski. If we were going to be cold, we might as well be skiing. And if we were going to be skiing, well. When else would we have the chance to spend a month in Europe?
After almost a year of some of the most gorgeous mountain views I had ever seen, I thought I was somewhat desensitized to majestic vistas. Boy, was I wrong. Jagged and sweeping, the Alps took our breath away. They were equally jaw-dropping when glowing with the late afternoon sun as they were when looming ominously out of swirling fog.
This was an indulgent but fitting end to our trip. We returned to the United States satiated and ready to say goodbye to the road (for now) as we put down new roots in Colorado.

It was stormy on-and-off for our first two weeks, which not only made for great snow, but also misty, mysterious views
